I do what's good. It's tax refund season. You got student loans, let's go. Okay, so here's the deal. You're getting ready to file your taxes and you're looking to get back a big tax refund. But the thing is, you got student loans and I want to make sure that you get that refund back. So here's what I need all y'all to do, right? I need you to check with your student loans before you file your taxes. I'm saying, what am I checking for? You want to check to make sure none of your student loans are in default. Because if they are in default, the government can take your tax refund and pay it towards your student loans through what they call the tax offset. Every year, I got people that come to call my office, on my website, send me messages and whatnot, because they got the refund took and thought they were gonna be good. But they're not. Now, I know a lot of you're like, "Oh man, I should be good. I filed it every year, I had no problem." You know, here's the thing. If you haven't been paying on your student loans and you think you're good, but you're not, gonna sure double check first. If I were you, what I do is visit NSLDS. That does what that is, is the federal student loan data system, which has all the information about your student loans. And then, when you can double check to see if you're in default of these loans. Now, some of you, you weren't in default, and you're like, "Oh, I signed up for a repayment agreement, so I should be good." Hold on until you're out of default and you got clearance all the way.
